Being the lead singer and lead guitarist of a famous indie rock band is pretty much a one-way ticket to Babesville. It doesn’t hurt that Alex Turner, the frontman of Arctic Monkeys, is also super hot and super British. Now there are a lot of super hot and super British lead singers out there — Chris Martin is apparently dating Jennifer Lawrence, for instance. Turner’s X factor, if you will, is that he is only 28 years old.

Arctic Monkeys have announced their first tour date of The ‘Do I Wanna Know’ rockers – who took a break in – have been busy.

Sources inside the organizational committee of this years FIB Heineken Festival in Benicassim yesterday revealed the names of the first acts that have agreed to appear. The Arctic Monkeys, meanwhile, scooped the awards for best British group and best British album at last night’s Brit awards ceremony that was televised live -without incident- for the first time in eighteen years. Although they could not attend the ceremony, the four wacky young lads from Sheffield sent pre-recorded acceptance videos dressed as characters from the Wizard of Oz and The Village People.

The Killers also picked up two awards -best international group and best international album, and there was a lifetime achievement award for the warring Gallagher brothers, whose band, Oasis, or what’s left of the original line-up at least, closed the show with a short medley of their greatest hits. Among the other acts appearing live at the event were the veteran Californian rockers, The Red Hot Chili Peppers photo. AFTER a hugely disappointing start to his seventh decade, Hollywood legend Antonio Banderas says he is now out of the woods — the Coronavirus he was diagnosed with birthday is out of his system.

But behind closed doors they were really close for a long time and very much in love. The couple were known to be private and rarely made public appearances together while also choosing not to share their romance on social media. She has instead stayed home in the US. News of the split will come as a surprise to fans as the couple are believed to have gotten matching tattoos on their arms.

The record was released earlier today and the fans who stayed up until midnight to get their first fix of the record are divided in opinion. Swapping the Les Paul for a Steinway Vertegrand piano, the tracks were rumoured to sound more like a solo record than the bands sixth album.

But having spent the year crafting the album, the output marks a huge shift in sound and direction. At times, it feels lyrically absurd, like a joke taken too far. It is without doubt their most daring release to date and we salute that. To find out how the tool can help power your scouting efforts, click the banner below to request a demo.

In many ways, the release of an artist’s second album is the defining moment of their career, with anything too similar or inferior seeing them disregarded as just another one record wonder. Should an artist ride that wave to successfully deliver something that matches its predecessor’s quality, however, and you’re pretty much guaranteed an entry into the hall of fame. The past quarter of a century has seen several successful endeavours – Radiohead, Blur, Oasis and Adele spring to mind – but no group of musicians have embraced the task with quite as much gusto as Sheffield quartet Arctic Monkeys whose sophomore album Favourite Worst Nightmare – the rowdy sequel to their record-breaking debut – was released in the UK ten years ago this Sunday 23 April.

Perhaps what is most striking about album number two is just how well they avoided succumbing to the pressures that so many other bands would have invariably fallen victim to had they scored the UK’s fastest-selling debut record just 15 months previous. Instead, Alex Turner and company returned with this gem which – after a decade – still stands tall as a metaphorical middle finger in the face of ‘second album syndrome.

What Favourite Worst Nightmare fails to boast in freshness, it makes up for in unabashed ferocity.
